The first geothermal energy project of its kind in Canada
Fuel for Reconciliation is a geothermal project that can decarbonize local industry and create an economic base for the Gits’llaasu People. The Gits’llaasu People, pronounced Kitselas, translates to “People of the Canyon.” These peoples have occupied their homelands for more than 5,000 years, in the region near present-day Terrace, B.C.
Fuel for Reconciliation aims to be an example of what is possible by creating an energy project that benefits the environment, increases local employment, provides long-term economic prosperity, and is a step towards the Indigenous independence that must underpin meaningful reconciliation.
This project is a Borealis Geothermal and Kitselas First Nation partnership. Through Kitselas Geothermal Inc., the Kitselas Development Corp. owns the majority stake in the Fuel for Reconciliation geothermal project.
Fuel for Reconciliation will harness the M'deek geothermal reservoir.
